Thank you!

volunteers at book saleWe would like to extend a hearty thank you to the many volunteers who worked so diligently at last weekend’s book sale.  Thanks to your efforts sorting books, helping patrons, and spreading the word, we were able to raise $9,400 for the Manhattan Library Association.  This money will help purchase new books and materials, organize the Talk About Literature in Kansas program, and fund special summer reading programs and prizes.  Your efforts help make the library a vibrant part of the Manhattan community, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Planning and organizing the sale takes months of preparation, for which the Manhattan Library Association deserves a round of applause. Book Sale Committee Chair Gary Jeffrey coordinated the event, organized volunteer efforts, and was on hand for every moment of the sale to make sure things ran smoothly.  Carol Oukrop, Publicity Chair, did a fantastic job getting the word out in the community. Thanks to her effort, more local businesses displayed information on their marquees than ever before.  Every member of the board contributed time, effort, and expertise to the sale, making the event a fantastic success.

We would also like to acknowledge the extra effort put forth by library staff who volunteered their time, the Flint Hills Job Corps who helped bring boxes of books from the basement, and the young men of Tau Kappa Epsilon who helped clean up on Sunday.  Your hard work and elbow grease kept the sale afloat.

A special thanks goes to Wilma Schmeller, Carol O’Neill, and their team of volunteers who help sort books year round for sale at Rosie’s Corner Bookstore. This corner of the library offers patrons the chance to buy affordable books all year long, and brings in an impressive amount of support for the Manhattan Library Association. Their effort to prepare for the book sale is truly amazing.

Thanks also to the community, and to everyone who participated in the book sale!  We appreciate your support!
